Mouth Full of Bullets pay increase

Just a quick note to let everyone know I've made a change to the pay rate for Mouth Full of Bullets. Beginning with the June 2007 Issue, the rate for original (never-before-published) short stories will increase from $5.00 to $10.00, and the rate for original flash stories will increase from $2.50 to $3.00. The poem rate will remain the same at $2.00.

Additionally, all of the slots for original fiction and poems are full throughout the 2007 issues. In fact, where I initially intended to only accept fifteen original pieces in each issue, I've been accepting more than that -- up to 21 in one of the future issues -- because I've been receiving so many great stories.

I'm still accepting submissions and have a great number of stories to read, but if I accept an original story or poem it'll go into a 2008 issue. Actually, if it's a short story it'll be considered for the June '08 Issue and beyond, as the March 2008 Issue is already full.

When I accept a story for MFOB I inform the contributor of the exact issue in which his or her story will appear. Since I do that, I want all potential submitters to know up front that it'll be a while before they see their work published. I don't want them going into shock when I tell them their stories won't be published until June 2008, or sometime later.

Now, there are still reprint slots available in the September and December 2007 issues. I've received a good number of reprint submissions already and I'm in the process of reading those now. If you've submitted a reprint and haven't heard back from me yet, it shouldn't be much longer. Since I don't pay for these (I certainly wish I could), there's no real limit to how many I publish in each issue. I try to keep it reasonable, though, because Jack Hardway generously gives of his valuable time to edit each and every story that appears in MFOB, and I don't want to send him five million stories to read for a single issue. :-)

Speaking of Jack, I can't say enough how much I appreciate his help. I truly couldn't do it without him. Many thanks to him for all that he does, and also to all of you who contribute your work to MFOB. Y'all are the ones who make it great.BJ Bourg
